Wanaka
Wanaka, sheltered behind the Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand, is the
ideal holiday destination. There is something for everyone, whatever
your age, ability or sense of adventure. From fishing to flightseeing,
tramping to tennis, horsetrekking to heli skiing, goldpanning to
golfing. Close to the Mount Aspiring National Park, the area is a
natural paradise.
About an hour's drive from Queenstown, Wanaka is very near several excellent ski areas (such as
Treble Cone and Cardrona) and some very good places to go tramping. Many of the most popular activities
in Wanaka involve the beautiful lake. While the pace of life here is far more sedate and less huried than
in Queenstown, Wanaka features many of the same high adrenalin activities and adventures. So if you want
to do your paragliding, jetboating or rap jumping in a more quiet and secluded atmosphere, Wanaka might
just be the place.
Easter is a great time to visit Wanaka and see the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow.
